Canton High School
The Canton Men's Track Team competed indoors at the EMU Huron Relays on Saturday, March 21st. Team scores weren't officially compiled, though Canton scored 22 points, good for 9th most among the 22 team field. Scorers included senior Aiden Pengelly (1600m 2nd place), freshman Troy Hughes (400m 2nd place), and the 4x800m relay team of Pengelly, Takeru Kikuta, Michael Harris, and Nick Oliveira (8th place). In the 60m hurdles, junior Grant Szetela's time of 8.68 seconds scored 4th place, and broke a 9-year-old school record. Canton is next in action on 3/25 with a scrimmage at New Boston Huron.

Canton finished 2nd in the Midnight Madness doubles tournament at Huron valley tennis club on 3/13. Other participants were Gabriel Richard (winner), Salem, and Plymouth. Congratulations to Samaara on an incredible wrestling season and making school history! Samaara finished 8th in the state in girls wrestling, earning All-State honors and becoming the first female wrestler in school history to achieve All-State recognition.

This weekend the Canton boys swim and dive team competed in the KLAA conference meet. The team finished in 4th place overall and had several fast swims. The 200 medley relay of Micah Styles, Ethan Stombaugh, Frank Marra, and Kaden Delaney set a new school record and placed 3rd. Earning all KLAA honors. The 200 free relay of Micah Styles, Kyle Gurgel, Kaden Delaney, and Ethan Stombaugh also set a new school record and placed first. Earning all KLAA honors and conference champions for that event. An overall successful end to the season for a majority of the athletes. A handful of athletes will continue on for two more weeks as they prepare for the MHSAA Division 1 state meet on March 13th and 14th.

Landin Watkins (Sophomore) qualified 3rd at Regionals on 2/21/26 with an impressive 6 game series of 1344 pins (242,207,236,181,269,209). This secured Landin a spot at States on 3/2/26 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. Throughout the school year Landin has shown and proven his commitment to the team and our culture through his hard work and willingness to listen/learn new things. Saamara Khan is a senior at Canton High School and the first girl in school history to qualify for the state wrestling tournament. Competing at 135 pounds, she holds a 33–10 record this season.Saamara has put in the work year-round and earned her spot through consistency, grit, and steady improvement. Her state qualification marks an important moment for the program and sets the standard for the next generation of wrestlers at Canton.Saamara will compete at the State Finals at Ford Field on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th! Good luck Saamara!!!!
