Saturday’s Regional race saw the Chiefs finish with five season best times, three career best times, and two State qualifiers.
Finishing first for the Chiefs and qualifying for the State meet was Joe Michalak. His amazing 16:03 is a new Chief Regional record. Joe is now the 3rd fastest runner in school history moving ahead of Canton legend Brian Beach.
Right behind Joe, finishing 14th, and qualifying for the State meet was Grant Hoffmeyer. Grant’s 16:08 makes him the 5th fastest runner in school history (passing Canton Great Duncan Spitz). Grant ran the 3rd fastest Regional time in school history.
3rd for the Chiefs, and breaking 17 minutes for the first time in his career, was Damien Dailide. Damien’s 16:56 makes him the 44th fastest runner in Canton history (tied with Canton icon Jim Gallagher).
4th for Canton was Daniel Carr who bounced back from an injury plagued season with an amazing 17:09.
And finishing the scoring for the Chiefs was Chirag Bangera (17:16). He was followed by Sai Vepa who’s 17:24 was a career best time.
Finishing 7th for Canton was Adam Lake who gutted out a tough finish despite a painful ankle.
Joe and Grant will race the best in the state on Saturday at MIS in Brooklyn.
