Canton Girls Lacrosse improved to 9 – 7 on the season, sending their seniors off on their special night, with a resounding 10 – 6 victory over Tecumseh. Despite the closeness of the score, Canton’s dominant effort enabled Coach Sarah Tiderington to provide all of Chiefs seniors with generous playing time in the tilt.
Senior captain Katelyn Waligora continued to drive the Chiefs offense, leading the way with 4 goals (including her team leading 55th) as she continues her push to surpass her record of 64 (set last season). Speaking of records, senior captain Jenna Anheuser continued her historic defensive season with 5 ground balls and 5 takeaways and added a goal to boot. The two were joined by senior captain Brooke Gauthier who took the field for the first time in a couple games and immediately reminded everyone how much she’s been missed with a beautiful goal that helped set the tone for the Chiefs. Finally, senior captain goalkeeper Savina Osann was rock solid in the net tonight, making 6 exceptional saves and distributing the ball with decisiveness and accuracy.
Seniors Sam Yono (2 goals, 2 ground balls and 2 takeaways) and Natalie Hadous (4 ground balls, 1 takeaway, 1 interception) were also huge contributors to the Chiefs victory this evening. Underclassmen Morgan Waligora (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 takeaways and 3 draw possessions) and Lexi Villarini (1 goal, 1 assist, 4 ground balls and 3 takeaways) rounded out the standout performances for the Chiefs in this contest.
The Chiefs continue their season tomorrow night in a match against rival Plymouth at 7:30 pm on the turf at Canton.
