The Canton Girls Swim & Dive team delivered a dominant home performance against Hartland, earning a decisive 114.5–71.5 victory. The Cobras showcased exceptional depth and balance across all events, with every swimmer and diver contributing to the team’s success. The meet featured festive Senior Night celebrations honoring the team’s senior athletes, along with numerous season-best performances, standout relay efforts, and strong scoring across the board — all building momentum as Canton heads into the championship phase of the season.
Canton opened strong in the 200 Medley Relay, as the A-team of Amelia Pan, Audrey Huey, Senior Captain Hannah Gurgel, and Senior Jasmine Pham took first in 1:55.36. The B-relay of Perisu Okuyucu, Senior Erin Yonker, Caitlin Gregory, and Isabel Ellinger added valuable points with a 2:13.08 finish. The C-relay featuring Senior Captain Emma Flynn, Senior Amya Bosanko, Senior Samaara Khan, and Senior Captain Megan Michener also showed strong improvement and teamwork.
In the 200 Freestyle, the Cobras swept the top three positions. Abi McAskin led the way with a first-place time of 2:06.19, followed by Ella Strutton (2:11.88, season best) and Senior Captain Ximena Murillo (2:13.19, over a 4.5-second drop). Additional solid swims came from Sydney Bennett, Vasmitha Karthikeyan, and Imoen Stop, all continuing to build consistency.
The 200 Individual Medley featured another strong showing from Canton. Amelia Pan dropped over two seconds to finish second with a state-qualifying 2:12.32, one of the night’s fastest swims. Mina Kennedy placed third, followed by Senior Erin Yonker, Isabel Ellinger (4-second drop), Kaliyah McElroy (personal best), and Laureli Claerr (nearly a 5-second drop).
In the 50 Freestyle, Senior Captain Hannah Gurgel sprinted to victory with a state-qualifying 25.62. She was followed by Liv Lecluyse and Perisu Okuyucu, completing another Cobra sweep. Additional strong efforts came from Senior Samaara Khan, Emma Edwards, Senior Captain Emma Flynn, Valentina Raoof, Nadia Doci, Ananya Gautam, Joann Muppidi, Navya Rathor, Elle Gilles, and Aditi Sankar.
Canton’s divers also impressed. Senior Elisa Quinn tied for third with a season best 159.60 points, while Senior Kiera Shisler (144.30) and Natalie Dicken (131.70) rounded out a strong showing on the boards for the Cobras.
The 100 Butterfly brought more success, with Mina Kennedy taking first in 1:03.58. Audrey Huey followed with a personal record (1:06.89), and Ella Strutton took fourth (1:11.20). Depth performances came from Caitlin Gregory, Praanjal Pradeep, Perisu Okuyucu, and Kaliyah McElroy.
In the 100 Freestyle, Canton again swept the top three. Amelia Pan (55.38) took first, followed by Abi McAskin (57.81) and Senior Jasmine Pham (1:00.59). Supporting swims came from Michelle Zhang, Cataleya McCauley (PR), Valentina Raoof, Zoey Macklem (PR), Vasmitha Karthikeyan, Senior Felecia Ferracciolo (PR), Nadia Doci (PR), Ananya Gautam, Joann Muppidi (PR), Navya Rathor, Elle Gilles (PR), and Aditi Sankar.
Distance swimmers continued the momentum in the 500 Freestyle, where Senior Captain Ximena Murillo placed third (5:59.35) and Senior Amya Bosanko finished fourth (6:21.17). Senior Emma Flynn also turned in a strong sixth-place finish.
The 200 Freestyle Relay kept the Cobras rolling. The A-relay of Senior Jasmine Pham, Abi McAskin, Mina Kennedy, and Amelia Pan won handily in 1:45.85. The B-relay of Senior Erin Yonker, Liv Lecluyse, Michelle Zhang, and Senior Ximena Murillo placed third. Additional teams featuring Samaara Khan, Senior Captain Megan Michener, Senior Felecia Ferracciolo, Senior Amya Bosanko, Navya Rathor, and Nadia Doci gained valuable race experience.
In the 100 Backstroke, Senior Captain Hannah Gurgel broke the two-year-standing pool record (previously held by alumna Natalie Tabar, Class of ’23) with an outstanding 58.91 victory. Audrey Huey took third, Isabel Ellinger placed fifth, and Praanjal Pradeep, Laureli Claerr, and Zoey Macklem (PR) added solid swims.
The 100 Breaststroke saw another Cobra sweep, with Senior Jasmine Pham (1:14.74), Senior Erin Yonker (1:18.92), and Michelle Zhang (1:22.95) taking the top three spots. Additional performances came from Liv Lecluyse, Cataleya McCauley, Emma Edwards, and Sydney Bennett, rounding out one of Canton’s deepest events.
Canton closed the meet with a commanding victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The A-team of Mina Kennedy, Audrey Huey, Abi McAskin, and Senior Captain Hannah Gurgel posted a winning time of 3:49.61. The B-relay of Senior Captain Ximena Murillo, Caitlin Gregory, Isabel Ellinger, and Senior Amya Bosanko finished second overall, while the C-relay featuring Senior Captain Emma Flynn, Senior Samaara Khan, Senior Felecia Ferracciolo, and Senior Captain Megan Michener capped off a successful night for the Cobras.
The team now looks ahead to its next competition on Thursday, October 30, when a selected group of swimmers will compete at the Mustang Invite at Northville High School to close out their season. Meanwhile, divers Kiera Shisler and Natalie Dicken will represent Canton at the Novi Dive Invite, taking on a 11-dive competition.
