The Canton Girls Swim & Dive team delivered an outstanding performance at the annual MISCA Invitational, held at the Holland Aquatic Center. The meet featured some of the fastest high school swimmers and divers in Michigan, with entry limited to athletes who had already achieved qualifying standards. The Cobras rose to the challenge, posting multiple season-best and state-qualifying times across the board.
All three Canton relays achieved Division 1 state-qualifying standards.
The Medley Relay team of Amelia Pan, Audrey Huey, Hannah Gurgel, and Abigail McAskin set the tone early with a strong swim.
The 200 Freestyle Relay of Jasmine Pham, Ximena Murillo, Audrey Huey, and Mina Kennedy also achieved the state cut.
Finally, the 400 Freestyle Relay capped the meet with a 3rd-place finish and another state-qualifying time.
Hannah Gurgel led the way with a stellar all-around performance, earning two state-qualifying times and winning the 200 Individual Medley. She also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke with another season-best swim, continuing her consistent top-level results.
Audrey Huey posted season-best times in both the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke, contributing key swims on multiple relays.
Mina Kennedy continued her breakout season with two individual state-qualifying times — one in the 200 Freestyle and another in the 500 Freestyle, both season bests.
Abi McAskin had a strong meet, recording a season-best time in the 100 Butterfly and adding two more state-qualifying swims in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle.
Ximena Murillo turned in a season-best time in the 100 Butterfly and contributed to the state-qualifying 200 Freestyle Relay.
Amelia Pan continued her steady leadership with state-qualifying performances in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, along with a key lead-off leg in the Medley Relay.
Jasmine Pham added depth and reliability to Canton’s lineup, earning season-best times in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke while helping lead off the 200 Freestyle Relay.
The Cobras’ collective performance at MISCA reflected the team’s hard work, speed, and depth across all strokes and distances. With numerous season bests and state-qualifying swims, Canton continues to build momentum heading into the championship portion of the season.
Canton’s next home meet is Thursday, October 23 at 6pm. The seniors will be honored at the conclusion of the meet.
