The Canton Girls Swim & Dive team delivered a commanding performance in their dual meet against Howell High School, earning a 108–73 victory on the road. The Cobras demonstrated their trademark depth and teamwork, with strong swims and dives from every member of the roster.
Canton opened the meet with impressive relay finishes. The A Medley Relay of Emma Flynn, Erin Yonker, Hannah Gurgel, and Amya Bosanko posted a solid 2:10.10. The B and C relays, featuring Amelia Pan, Liv Lecluyse, Ella Strutton, Kaliyah McElroy, Mina Kennedy, Peyton Szopko, Caitlin Gregory, and Michelle Zhang, also turned in competitive swims that set the tone for the night.
In the 200 Freestyle, Ximena Murillo led the way with a winning time of 2:17.76, followed closely by Isabel Ellinger—who dropped over two and a half seconds—and Praanjal Pradeep in the top four. Laureli Claerr also contributed a strong swim, cutting nearly three seconds from her previous best.
The 200 Individual Medley was another dominant event for Canton. Audrey Huey (2:21.51) and Abigail McAskin (2:24.67)—swimming the event for the first time this season—swept the top two spots. Michelle Zhang finished fourth, while Kate Stevens, Sydney Bennett, Kaliyah McElroy, Cataleya McCauley (who dropped over three seconds), and Emma Edwards (in her first IM race) added strong depth to the event.
Sprint power shone in the 50 Freestyle, where Hannah Gurgel captured first place in 25.43, followed by Mina Kennedy in second and Ella Strutton (who dropped time) in fourth. Liv Lecluyse, Amya Bosanko, Peyton Szopko (dropping nearly two seconds), Emma Flynn, and Valentina Raoof also added quick performances in the heats.
On the boards, the Cobras’ divers delivered another consistent showing. Elisa Quinn posted a career-high score of 141.60 to place third, with Kiera Shisler (139.95) close behind in fourth and Natalie Dicken fifth, each securing valuable team points.
In the 100 Butterfly, Mina Kennedy led the charge with a first-place finish in 1:03.25, dropping over half a second. Jasmine Pham placed third, and Kate Stevens—swimming the event for the first time—took fifth. Butterfly veteran Caitlin Gregory, Emma Edwards, and Cataleya McCauley (each competing in fly for the first time) along with Laureli Claerr (who dropped nearly two and a half seconds) rounded out the group’s strong effort.
The 100 Freestyle saw Abigail McAskin earn another victory in 57.09, followed by Ella Strutton in second and Erin Yonker in fourth. Praanjal Pradeep, competing in the event for the first time this season, contributed a solid swim.
Distance excellence defined the 500 Freestyle, where Hannah Gurgel dominated in 5:12.84, with Amelia Pan close behind at 5:22.65. Kaliyah McElroy swam the event for the first time, while Valentina Raoof dropped an impressive 48 seconds from her earlier season performance.
The Cobras controlled the 200 Freestyle Relay, as Praanjal Pradeep, Abigail McAskin, Kate Stevens, and Ximena Murillo took first in 1:54.21. The “B” relay of Michelle Zhang, Jasmine Pham, Perisu Okuyucu, and Liv Lecluyse finished close behind, while Cataleya McCauley, Emma Edwards, Laureli Claerr, and Amelia Pan contributed another fast showing.
In the 100 Backstroke, Audrey Huey—swimming the event for the first time—continued her standout meet with a winning 1:05.72. Isabel Ellinger and Caitlin Gregory joined her in the top four, while Emma Flynn, Peyton Szopko, Erin Yonker, Sydney Bennett, and Amya Bosanko added solid performances that highlighted Canton’s depth.
The 100 Breaststroke featured several Cobras, including Amelia Pan (nearly a two-second time drop), Ximena Murillo (first time in the event), Michelle Zhang, and Perisu Okuyucu (who dropped over two seconds). Each delivered strong swims that further underscored the team’s versatility.
Canton closed the night with a series of 400 Freestyle Relays, highlighted by Amya Bosanko, Erin Yonker, Liv Lecluyse, and Hannah Gurgel, who posted a fast 4:11.21. Additional relays featuring Praanjal Pradeep, Kate Stevens, Jasmine Pham, Mina Kennedy, Peyton Szopko, Isabel Ellinger, Ximena Murillo, Ella Strutton, Sydney Bennett, Caitlin Gregory, Kaliyah McElroy, and Valentina Raoof capped off a dominant team effort.
Overall, every Canton swimmer and diver contributed to the team’s decisive victory. The Cobras’ performance against Howell reflected the program’s hallmark combination of speed, consistency, and depth—a strong statement as they continue their season.
Canton’s next competition takes them across the state to the MISCA Meet in Holland, MI, held at the Holland Aquatic Center (12:00 p.m. start). Their next home meet is Thursday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m., where the Cobras will honor their seniors.
