The Canton Girls Swim & Dive team hosted the Brighton Bulldogs in an exciting dual meet at the Canton pool on October 9, 2025. The Cobras showed outstanding teamwork and determination across every event, with strong contributions from all swimmers and divers as they competed against one of the top programs in the region.
Canton opened the meet with a statement performance in the 200 Medley Relay, as the A-relay of Hannah Gurgel, Audrey Huey, Amelia Pan, and Abigail McAskin captured first place with a swift 1:52.71. The B-relay of Jasmine Pham, Erin Yonker, Ximena Murillo, and Ella Strutton lead narrowly in a battle for third. The Cobras’ depth was evident through additional relay squads — Cataleya McCauley, Peyton Szopko, Kaliyah McElroy, Samaara Khan, Megan Michener, Joann Muppidi, Brynn Sturdy, Elle Gilles, Isabel Ellinger, Michelle Zhang, Praanjal Pradeep, Kate Stevens, and Perisu Okuyucu, Felecia Ferracciolo, Emma Flynn, and Zoey Macklem — all helping Canton build early momentum.
In the 200 Freestyle, Mina Kennedy led the way with a runner-up finish, followed by Amya Bosanko, who posted a season best, and Sydney Bennett, completing the top heat. Additional strong swims came from Caitlin Gregory, Emma Edwards, and Vasmitha Karthikeyan, who achieved a personal record with a six-second time drop — showing impressive endurance across the middle-distance group.
The 200 IM was another highlight, with Hannah Gurgel taking first place after a powerful closing freestyle leg. Ella Strutton and Perisu Okuyucu gained valuable experience in the top heat, while Kate Stevens, Praanjal Pradeep, and Isabel Ellinger all recorded personal bests to round out a strong IM performance for the Cobras.
In the 50 Freestyle, Amelia Pan sprinted to victory in 25.58, with Kaliyah McElroy earning fifth place and a personal best. Emma Flynn rounded out the top heat. Additional best times came from Cataleya McCauley, Valentina Raoof, Nadia Doci, and Elle Gilles, while Samaara Khan, Felecia Ferracciolo, Imoen Stop, Ananya Gautam, Brynn Sturdy, Megan Michener, Navya Rathor, Joann Muppidi, and Aditi Sankar showcased the team’s depth and sprint speed across all grades.
On the boards, the Cobra divers turned in a consistent showing. Kiera Shisler placed third overall, with Natalie Dicken and Elisa Quinn finishing closely behind — combining for key points toward the team total.
In the 100 Butterfly, Ximena Murillo battled to a close second-place finish, while Jasmine Pham and Michelle Zhang each earned personal bests in the event.
The 100 Freestyle featured a series of exciting races. Abigail McAskin placed second, and Mina Kennedy took fourth with a new personal best. Erin Yonker also turned in a career-best time. Additional highlights included Emma Edwards, Nadia Doci, and Joann Muppidi, each earning new personal bests. Teammates Peyton Szopko, Emma Flynn, Valentina Raoof, Zoey Macklem, Samaara Khan, Brynn Sturdy, Imoen Stop, Megan Michener, Navya Rathor, Ananya Gautam, Elle Gilles, and Aditi Sankar filled out a deep and competitive sprint field.
Canton’s distance crew delivered steady performances in the 500 Freestyle, led by Audrey Huey swimming the event for the first time this season. Kate Stevens placed fourth with a six-second time drop, while Sydney Bennett rounded out the group with a solid effort to close the event.
The Cobras carried that momentum into the 200 Freestyle Relay, where the A-relay of McAskin, Pan, Kennedy, and Gurgel stormed to victory in 1:41.80. The B-relay (Pham, Murillo, Huey, Strutton) earned third by less than a second, while the C-relay (McElroy, Yonker, Stevens, Bosanko) added another strong performance. Additional teams — Flynn, Edwards, Karthikeyan, Raoof, Sankar, Gautam, Sturdy, Doci, and Rathor, Ferracciolo, Stop, Michener — showed the Cobras’ competitive depth and team unity.
In the 100 Backstroke, Perisu Okuyucu led the way for Canton, followed by Isabel Ellinger and Caitlin Gregory, while Praanjal Pradeep, Cataleya McCauley, and Zoey Macklem completed the lineup with consistent swims.
The 100 Breaststroke saw Erin Yonker tie for third place, while Michelle Zhang dropped time and added points for the team. Peyton Szopko, Kaliyah McElroy, Amya Bosanko, and Vasmitha Karthikeyan also contributed valuable swims to close out individual events.
Canton finished the night with a commanding win in the 400 Freestyle Relay, as Amelia Pan, Mina Kennedy, Hannah Gurgel, and Abigail McAskin combined for a dominant 3:41.32. The B-relay (Strutton, Pham, Murillo, Huey) and C-relay (Bennett, McCauley, Bosanko, Gregory) wrapped up the evening with strong swims to end the meet on a high note.
Although Brighton claimed the overall team victory (111.5–74.5), the Canton Cobras displayed exceptional spirit, teamwork, and contributions from every swimmer and diver. With standout performances from both veterans and newcomers, the Cobras continue to build confidence and momentum heading into the next phase of their 2025 season.
