Canton Girls Swim & Dive had an all-team performance at the Rock Maurer Invitational, with multiple athletes stepping up for top finishes across all events.
Leading the charge, Hannah Gurgel and Amelia Pan both achieved D1 state qualifying times, each taking home two individual victories while dominating the IM and backstroke events. Mina Kennedy made a statement with two MISCA qualifying times and a 1st place finish in the 500 freestyle, while Ximena Murillo (butterfly & backstroke) and Jasmine Pham (IM & backstroke) each added a pair of 2nd place finishes and at least one MISCA qualifying time. Abigail McAskin (200 Free & 100 Butterfly) and Audrey Huey (100 Breaststroke) also contributed to the Cobras’ depth and added MISCA qualifying swims, preparing for the October meet in Holland, MI.
Several Cobras also punched tickets to the Wayne County Championships next weekend in Grosse Pointe. Among the qualifiers were Ella Strutton (200 Free & 100 Butterfly), Perisu Okuyucu (200 Free & 500 Free), Liv Lecluyse (100 Free & 100 Breaststroke), Kate Stevens (200 & 100 Free), Audrey Huey (50 Free), Amya Bosanko (500 Free), and Caitlin Gregory (100 Butterfly). In the distance event, Bosanko also qualified and added a strong 2nd place finish in the 500.
Adding to relays and sprint depth, ensuring the Cobras had coverage in every heat, were Sydney Bennett, Erin Yonker, Praanjal Pradeep, and Isabel Ellinger, each producing personal-best swims throughout the day.
On the boards, Kiera Shisler earned a 4th place finish in diving, while Elisa Quinn gained valuable competition experience in exhibition.
With multiple top-3 finishes across nearly every event, the Cobras displayed their balance of star power and team depth. Every swimmer and diver played a role in Canton’s strong invitational showing.
Canton will host the Northville Mustangs on Thursday at a 6pm start.
