Canton vs. Salem – September 25, 2025
The Canton Cobras made history Thursday night, defeating Salem to officially secure the honors of 2025 Park Champs. Every member of the roster contributed to a night of pride and celebration for the Cobras.
The evening began with the 200 Medley Relay, where the A team of Amelia Pan, Erin Yonker, Ximena Murillo, and Liv Lecluyse touched first in commanding fashion. Canton’s depth was on display as the B squad of Mina Kennedy, Michelle Zhang, Abigail McAskin, and Ella Strutton also swam to a 2nd place finish, while the C, D, E, and F relays gave valuable experience to Perisu Okuyucu, Peyton Szopko, Caitlin Gregory, Sydney Bennett, Laureli Claerr, Zoey Macklem, Praanjal Pradeep, Vasmitha Karthikeyan, Emma Edwards, Kaliyah McElroy, Emma Flynn, Cataleya McCauley, Samaara Khan, Amya Bosanko, Valentina Raoof, and Brynn Sturdy.
The 200 Freestyle showcased Canton’s distance strength with Hannah Gurgel powering to victory, followed by Audrey Huey and Jasmine Pham. Teammates Kate Stevens, Isabel Ellinger, and Megan Michener added depth with determined swims. In the 200 IM, Mina Kennedy captured the win, supported by Ella Strutton, Perisu Okuyucu, Sydney Bennett, Amya Bosanko, and Peyton Szopko.
Sprinters took over in the 50 Freestyle as Amelia Pan blasted to first place, with Ximena Murillo and Liv Lecluyse close behind. The event also saw gritty races from Kaliyah McElroy, Erin Yonker, Caitlin Gregory, Emma Flynn, Emma Edwards, Laureli Claerr, Cataleya McCauley, Samaara Khan, Vasmitha Karthikeyan, Zoey Macklem, Felecia Ferracciolo, Imoen Stop, Nadia Doci, Brynn Sturdy, Navya Rathor, Elle Gilles, and Aditi Sankar.
On the boards, Kiera Shisler represented Canton in diving, showing composure and progression.
Momentum carried into the 100 Butterfly, with Ximena Murillo and Mina Kennedy going 1–2, while Michelle Zhang added a solid fourth-place finish. In the 100 Freestyle, Abigail McAskin, Audrey Huey, and Jasmine Pham led the charge, supported by Isabel Ellinger (new Wayne County Championship qualifier), Perisu Okuyucu, Sydney Bennett, Emma Edwards, Valentina Raoof, Cataleya McCauley, Vasmitha Karthikeyan, Samaara Khan, Felecia Ferracciolo, Brynn Sturdy, Imoen Stop, Megan Michener, Nadia Doci, Navya Rathor, and Aditi Sankar.
The Cobras’ endurance shined in the 500 Freestyle, with Liv Lecluyse and Ella Strutton battling for top-three finishes, and Praanjal Pradeep contributing important depth.
Relays continued to be a team strength. The 200 Freestyle Relay A team of Mina Kennedy, Abigail McAskin, Jasmine Pham, and Hannah Gurgel touched first, while the B team of Erin Yonker, Kaliyah McElroy, Audrey Huey, and Ella Strutton finished strong. The remaining relay races included Samaara Khan, Zoey Macklem, Cataleya McCauley, Valentina Raoof, Sydney Bennett, Felecia Ferracciolo, Isabel Ellinger, Vasmitha Karthikeyan, Megan Michener, Navya Rathor, Imoen Stop, Brynn Sturdy, Nadia Doci, Elle Gilles, Emma Edwards, and Aditi Sankar.
In the 100 Backstroke, Caitlin Gregory (First-time event winner) and Kate Stevens went 1–2, with Praanjal Pradeep rounding out the scoring swims, supported by Laureli Claerr, Michelle Zhang, and Emma Flynn. The 100 Breaststroke showcased Canton’s depth with strong swims from Hannah Gurgel, Amelia Pan, Abigail McAskin, Peyton Szopko, Amya Bosanko, and Kaliyah McElroy.
The meet concluded with the 400 Freestyle Relays, where the A, B, and C teams brought energy and speed. Squads featured Ximena Murillo, Jasmine Pham, Hannah Gurgel, Amelia Pan, Kate Stevens, Audrey Huey, Liv Lecluyse, Isabel Ellinger, Perisu Okuyucu, Praanjal Pradeep, Erin Yonker, and Michelle Zhang.
Next meet is the Salem Rock Maurer Invitational on Saturday starting at 12noon. Participating teams: Salem, Plymouth, Northville, Stevenson, Country Day, and Canton.
