The Canton girls freshman/sophomore squad had a fantastic day at the Dexter Invitational collecting three first-place finishes (200 Free, 100 Free, 100 Breast), plus two relay wins (200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay). Every athlete contributed, either in individual swims or on relays, making this meet a strong early-season statement for the Cobras.
 
The meet opened with a bang as Amelia Pan, Abigail McAskin, Audrey Huey, and Ella Strutton teamed up to win the 200 Medley Relay in 1:56.77. Canton later capped off the meet with another big relay victory, as Strutton, Pan, Huey, McAskin had a come from behind victory in the 400 Free Relay in 3:51.40. The 200 Free Relay squad of Kate Stevens,  Michelle Zhang, Praanjal Pradeep, Liv Lecluyse also swam well, finishing 4th overall.
 
Individually, Amelia Pan won both the 200 Free (2:03.25) and 100 Free (55.71). Abigail McAskin backed her up with a 2nd place finish in the 200 Free (2:08.19) and added a 6th place in the 100 Free. Audrey Huey earned another Canton victory in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.81), placed 5th in the 200 IM, and was a key part of both relay wins. Ella Strutton chipped in across multiple events as well, finishing 8th in the 100 Fly, 19th in the 200 Free, and swimming clutch legs on both winning relays.
 
Canton’s depth was on display too. Michelle Zhang placed 12th in the 200 IM and gained valuable experience in a tough field. Praanjal Pradeep stepped up in the 100 Backstroke, finishing 10th, and also helped power the 200 Free Relay. Catelyn McCauley took 14th in the 200 Free and swam on the 400 Free Relay, showing her versatility. Perisu Okuyucu finished 13th in the 200 Free and swam a strong leg in the 400 Free Relay as well. Emma Edwards raced the 50 Free and 100 Free, in addition to contributing on relays, while Navya Rathor and Vasmitha Karthikeyan rounded out the 100 Back and relay squads with solid swims of their own.
 
Zoey Macklem tackled the demanding 500 Free and also swam in the 200 Free Relay, while Aditi Sankar competed in the 50 Free & 100 back and anchored a 400 Free Relay. Imoen Stop contributed by PRing in individual events and joining relay action. Elle Gilles did well in the 50 and 100 Free. Kaliyah McElroy had a multiple second improvement in the 100 free. Ananya Gautam had PRs in both 50 & 100 Free.
 
The performances at Dexter show the team’s mix of top-end speed, competitive depth, and teamwork, giving plenty of momentum as the season continues.
 
Canton’s next meet is Tuesday at home vs Wayne Memorial and Thursday away at Salem HS.
