For the first time in three seasons, girls varsity basketball found themselves on the winning end of back to back games this weekend.
On Friday, girls basketball took on park rival Salem High School at home. It was a tight game after the first quarter with the Canton Chiefs leading 10-5. A spark from Sophomore Rachel Williams and Freshman Marisa Cribari in the second helped extend the lead to 19-8 at halftime. The Chiefs were able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the second half to earn their second win of the season. It was a balanced scoring effort from the team with Rachel and Marisa totaling 8 points each while Senior Kate Burns and Sophomore Maddy Stone both added 6 points each.
On Saturday, girls basketball traveled to Northville High School to take on the Mustangs. A great defensive effort from both teams kept the score on the lower end. At halftime, the Chiefs led 17-11. A strong 3rd quarter from the Mustangs had the Chiefs looking at their first deficit of the game trailing 22-23 heading into the 4th. A 3 from the Mustangs in the 4th extended their lead to 22-26 before a big 3 pointer response from Rachel Williams, a tough inside bucket from Senior Alex Bohn, and a huge putback finish from Freshman Maya Joiner to put the Chiefs up 3 with 12 seconds to play. The Chiefs got the defensive stop they needed and walked away with their third win of the season. Sophomore Rachel Williams led all scorers with 12 points and 8 rebounds while Senior Noel Blain added 7 points.
The Chiefs will be back in action on Tuesday taking on Howell High School at 7pm at home.
