Today was a great day for the Canton girls cross-country team. The Chiefs were able to advance to the Michigan Cross-Country State Final Meet as a team for the first time in almost 20 years. The team placed 2nd behind Plymouth and just ahead of Salem completing a sweep by all 3 PCEP schools. Senior Arianna Ontko was the top finisher for the Chiefs placing 6th overall with a personal record (19:18) followed by 7th place runner sophomore Cara Newman (19:24). Freshman Alexis Pickerel finished 15th with a time of 20:07. All 3 girls received Regional awards. The remaining finishers for the Chiefs were junior Thea Schley (20:19), freshman Taylor Steinagel (20:47), sophomore Sanya Ahmed (20:55) and senior Asmita Tuladhar (20:57). The team achievement was a great confidence builder leading up to the State meet. The team’s race will be held at Michigan International Speedway on Friday November 6th at 11 am. GO CHIEFS!!
