Chiefs News · Canton Swim Team competes at MHSAA D1 State Meet


Canton Placed 26th overall at Saturday, November 16-17th D1 State Finals at Eastern Michigan University with 8 points. Canton competed Friday in Prelims with 8 individual athletes in 11 individual events and three relays. Throughout Friday Canton had 6 career best times, and 1 school record.

On Saturday, Sophia Balow (SR – 3 time state qualifier) raced for 16th place in the 500 freestyle. In prelims on Friday, Sophia bettered her lifetime best to 5:02.71. On Friday, Sophia also placed 19th in the 200 freestyle with a lifetime best of 1:54.91. Jessica Clark (SR – 4 time state qualifier) did her lifetime best in the 200 IM – 2:09.75 on Friday placing 20th, and qualified for Saturday’s consolation final heat in the 100 backstroke placing 14th overall. Jenna Leppek (JR) placed 23rd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.92. Sadie Miller (SO – 2 time state qualifier) raced for 29th in the 100 freestyle with a time of :54.07. Elena Balow (SO – 2 time state qualifier) competed in 100 freestyle for 31st place. Leah Kolb (SO) had her state meet debut in the 100 backstroke finishing for 31st place. Zoe Langenderfer (FR) had her state meet debut in the 200 IM finishing 34th, and qualified for Saturday’s consolation heat in the 100 backstroke placing 13th with a lifetime best – :58.92. Madelyn Weber (FR) also debuted in the 100 freestyle, placing 25th with a life time best of :53.81.

Canton’s Medley Relay, swimming backstroke was Zoe Langenderfer, breaststroke Jenna Leppek, butterfly Jessica Clark, freestyle Elena Balow placed 17th with a time of 1:51.03. Canton’s 200 Freestyle Relay, swum by Elena Balow, Leah Kolb, Sophia Balow, Sadie Miller placed 26th. Canton’s 400 Freestyle Relay, swum by Jessica Clark, Madelyn Weber, Sophia Balow, Sadie Miller placed 18th with a SCHOOL RECORD time of 3:39.58.

Plymouth High School: 14th at MHSAA; Brady Kendall 3rd 50 free, 5th 100 butterfly,  Liz Breda 26th in 100 back, 200 Medley Relay 9th, 200 Free Relay 13th, 400 Free Relay 29th

Brighton High School: 2nd place at MHSAA finish by 2 points to Farmington Hills Mercy

Northville High School: 8th place at MHSAA
