Boys Junior Varsity Lacrosse, Boys Varsity Lacrosse · Canton Chiefs vs. Farmington Game Summary

“Canton Chiefs Varsity Lacrosse Team wins Opener (16-8) over Farmington Falcons”

The Canton Chiefs Boys Varsity Lacrosse team opened up the season with a convincing win over the Farmington Falcons (16-8) on Tuesday March 25th.    Led by Junior attackman Carson Pakula (6 Goals/ 3 Assists) and seniors Gerald Belanger (3 Goals/1 Assist)  Brocton Baechler (2 Goals/1 Assist), the Chiefs overwhelmed the Falcons’ defense.  Nolan Gilo and Ben Phillips dominated the Falcons by winning a whopping 80% of the face offs.

Both teams started off tentative and swapped early goals. Senior midfielders Nolan Gilo, Jay Krebs, and Gerald Belanger settled the offense and the Chiefs dominated the time of possession.  After a slow start to the first quarter the Chiefs finally opened up the offense and scored two goals to finish up the first quarter of play.

The Chiefs broke open the game and dominated the second quarter by shutting out the Falcons and bombarding the defense, scoring 8 unanswered goals.  Strong defensive play by seniors Austin Poe, Brian Newton, and midfielder Jay Krebs allowed for quick clears as the Chiefs dominated the possession.  Sophomore Goalie Nathan Janice pitched a shutout stopping all shots.

The Chiefs started the third quarter a little sluggish and dug themselves in a hole with several penalties that put them in a man down situation.  Junior defenseman Ryan Schlieger made two outstanding defensive plays by taking the ball away from the Falcons and clearing for 2 quality scoring opportunities.  Strong defensive play from juniors Ben Phillips and Micah Rinke minimized the scoring opportunities for the Falcons.

The Chiefs recovered from a penalty-ridden third quarter by speeding the game up and scoring four goals. Excellent team play and quick clearing lead to 3 transition goals.  Overall the Chiefs played a great game and look forward to getting better as the season progresses.

The next few games look to be a benchmark for the Chiefs as they play at Grand Blanc, and home against Ann Arbor Pioneer Tuesday, March 31st.  All of these games are before the spring break and we encourage you to come out and support the Canton Chiefs Varsity Lacrosse team.
